This engagement with GreenID focused on strengthening the organization’s capacity to apply GIS in renewable energy and climate mitigation initiatives, including rooftop solar deployment, agro-voltaics studies, and carbon emission reduction. The objective was to enable GreenID to internalize geospatial expertise by developing in-house GIS specialists, supporting long-term organizational growth and data-driven project implementation.
We delivered a structured GIS capacity-building program combining technical training, practical application, and ongoing support.
The first workshop focused on gathering readily available datasets from different organizations such as the World Bank, for effective GIS visualization of the Solar Power Potential for Vietnam.
The second workshop focused on utilizing GIS to identify suitable rooftops for solar panel installation and estimating the solar power potential of the pilot area based on the collective surface suitable rooftops. This seminar was attended by GreenID staff as well as members from their partner organizations outside of Vietnam, which included participants from Malaysia and Indonesia, via an online webinar.
The engagement strengthened GreenID’s institutional capacity to independently apply GIS in renewable energy and climate-related projects. By embedding geospatial skills within the organization, the project enabled more efficient project planning, improved analysis of renewable energy potential, and stronger evidence-based decision-making. The outcomes support GreenID’s transition toward data-driven implementation and sustained impact in clean energy and emissions reduction initiatives.
