Shaping Mobility For Liveable And Social Cities

About: This assignment is an expansion of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Regional Climate and Energy project, which examined four cities Shanghai, Paris, Seoul, and the partner city Hamburg to understand mobility for liveable and social cities. The second phase includes five more cities in Asia including Hanoi city. All these cities are characterized by high population growth, a decreasing mix of uses, long distances especially for lower-income groups, and an overburdened mobility system focused on the car.

The purpose is to assess the mobility system with regard to the social and ecological aspects. The case study to be presented as City Profile highlighting the desired long-term goals, the central challenges, and the preferred solution paths, including description and assessment of focal points, and strategies for mobility. The project aims to foster a social-ecological transformation in Asia by promoting international and domestic climate justice and exploring solutions for a just transition, especially in the energy sector and sustainable cities.

Tasks/Responsibilities: Prepare a case study for Hanoi guided by the Key Performance Indicators for mobility. It involves data collection and desk review to understand the historical, socio-cultural influence of mobility in Hanoi. Identify and assess the key visions, strategy, and urban planning and development policy that are responsible for the current mobility status quo. The output, which is a City Profile focuses on three key areas i) Affordability, availability, and Inclusivity; ii) Safety and Reliability and iii) Ecological Sustainability, Avoidance of traffic, and Internalization of External Costs. It will also highlight an assessment of the liveability, social and ecological significance of mobility in Hanoi. The final report will go as an uptake for the conference proceeding, along with a summary paper and presentation of the case study.
