Design Consultancy for Restoration and Re-development of Eco-tourism park at Kambalakonda, Visakhapatnam, Phase A (i) World Bank Credit No.5694 – IN

In October 12, 2014, a very severe cyclonic storm ‘Hudhud’ made landfall on the coast of Andhra Pradesh, near the city of Visakhapatnam, and caused extensive devastation. In order to restore, improve and enhance the resilience of public services, environmental facilities, and livelihoods in targeted communities of Andhra Pradesh, and increase the capacity of the State to respond promptly/effectively to an eligible crisis or emergency, the Government of India has received a loan from the World Bank towards the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Recovery Project (APDRP). The project aims at restoration of environmental services and facilities at Kambalakonda Eco-Park, ecological conservation, and environmental education/ awareness, and also to redevelop the place with a view to reducing recurrence of damages of a similar kind from future disasters.

Specific activities involved:

  • Conduct a desk review of existing literature towards spatial and temporal assessment/analysis of the ecological, environmental, and socio-economic aspects for the entire Kambalakonda landscape.
  • Benchmark survey about native flora and fauna, ecological conservation and restoration approaches, interventions to promote habitat management, and land use management.
  • Survey to determine the area covered by exotic invasive species and prescriptions for their control and eventual removal.
  • Study the water regime of the park giving prescriptions necessary to ensure sustainability.
  • Social, environmental and demographic assessment, stakeholder consultations proposing sustainable community institution framework.
  • Prepare IPDP/IPF and or RAP.
  • Carry out an environmental assessment of the proposed interventions and develop mitigation plans.
  • Prepare a master plan for the restoration and re-development of the Kambalakonda Eco-park.
  • Assist the department in obtaining necessary statutory and other clearances may be necessary from time to time.
