PREPARATION OF MASTER PLAN OF BANIHAL TOWN IN JAMMU DIVISION

About: The project focused on preparing the Master Plan for small and medium towns in Jammu and Kashmir. The aim was to cater to all the major issues related to amorphous and haphazard growth, dilapidated urban infrastructure, disposition of incompatible land use, poor economic and industrial base, degradation of the environment, traffic chaos etc. As the town lies in hilly terrain and environmentally sensitive area, the approach was flexible and followed the participatory approach and aimed at sustainable urbanization. The focus was on creating an enabling environment to promote industrialization using local resources, improve quality of life, upgrade human skills and create best infrastructure for the people.

Spatial Decisions scope of work for the following services of Banihal Master Plan are:

  • Creating Base map (1:5000), existing land use map, urban area map and proposed land use map (1:5000) for the year 2034 in GIS platform
  • Collection and analysis of physical and socio-economic data
  • Household survey, transport survey, land use survey etc.
  • Projections and Possible Development Scenarios, SWOT analysis
  • Proposals town development such as residential, commercial, industrial, heritage conservation, housing, tourism, environmental and other socio-cultural infrastructure
  • Preparation of Transportation Network Plan
  • Proposals regarding alleviation of urban poverty, rehabilitation of street vendors, infrastructure development, community facilities etc;
  • Implementation strategy, phasing of development and institutional framework
  • Stakeholder Consultations
