SUMMARY:Circular Economy Forum 2025
DESCRIPTION:Organizer: Asian Development Bank (ADB)\n\nAsia and the Pacifi
c is a hotspot for plastic pollution. Of the 10 rivers that transport 88%
–95% of the world’s plastic into the sea\, eight are in Asia. Moreover
\, most plastic waste entering the ocean are from six Asian countries: Ind
 onesia\, the People’s Republic of China\, the Philippines\, Sri Lanka\,
Thailand\, and Viet Nam. Plastic pollution is a complex\, multisectoral is
sue that requires immediate and long-term solutions. Left unchecked\, plas
tic waste will continue to harm the environment\, particularly waterways a
 nd wildlife\; marine-based livelihoods\, local economies\, public health\,
and overall quality of life.\n\nThe Circular Economy Forum will be a plat
form to unpack this dire challenge and set a path for the wider adoption o
f the circular economy approach in investments and initiatives across sect
ors in the region as presented in the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Envir
onment Action Plan 2024–2030.\n\nThe event is also the culmination of th
e ADB regional technical assistance (TA)\, Promoting Action on Plastic Po
llution from Source to Sea in Asia and the Pacific. It will showcase the a
chievements and lessons learned from implementing the TA project in Indone
 sia\, the Philippines\, Thailand\, and Viet Nam\, including city-level act
ion plans and roadmaps for digitalizing the plastic value chain. The event
also coincides with the 3-year anniversary of the Circular Economy Webina
r Series\, which has been a hallmark of the project’s knowledge sharing
and capacity building program\, putting the spotlight on emerging issues\,
tech solutions\, and new approaches to mainstream circular economy.\n\nTh
e forum will feature keynote presentations from inspiring speakers\, relev
ant case studies and best practices from other initiatives and countries\,
and updates and plans relating to international agreements such as the an
ticipated Global Plastics Treaty. Together with plenary sessions\, the eve
nt will consist of three thematic tracks that are essential for accelerati
ng the circular economy: Enabling Conditions\, Digitalization and Innovati
on\, and Digitalization of the Plastic Value Chain.\n\nA circular economy
marketplace will also be available during the forum. It will feature a mix
of solutions providers and small businesses offering unique items that pr
omote upcycling and waste reduction.\n\nThe Circular Economy Forum is orga
nized by the ADB Environment group\, in collaboration with the ADB Circula
r Economy Working Group\, and supported by the Global Environment Facility
\, High-Level Technology Fund (financed by the Government of Japan)\, Japa
n Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific\, and the Republi
c of Korea e-Asia and Knowledge Partnership Fund.
