Landsat Workshop hosted by Vietnam National Space Agency

The second half of the day featured presentations from VNSC and VNU experts which focused on the importance of Landsat data in Vietnam. A particularly interesting discussion was how Landsat was applied to analyze the changes in the Mekong Delta through land-use change detection. The results intertwine with introducing policy changes to ensure sustainability in the region.

Another presentation focused on the utilization of atmospheric correction algorithm over coastal and inland waters. This algorithm is based on the RED and NIR bands.

The last presentation focused on automated cloud segmentation through the use of deep learning algorithms, which results in faster processing of cloud-free images and integration with Vietnam’s Open Data Cube initiative which aims to better serve remote sensing professionals.

The USGS experts were very much impressed to learn about the applications of Landsat data in Vietnam and for them, it reinforces the importance of opening the access to the public which could result in multiple analyses, products and eventually to help improve and better communities.
