Cross Sectoral Practices

As an organization that sits at the intersection of the corporate world and the international development sector, Spatial Decisions believes that successful development in the coming decade will be characterized by what has been termed “cross-sector convergence”; a convergence of challenges, a convergence of approaches and a convergence of solutions.

Today we not only leverage, but combine our expertise across the domains of Design, Planning and Information Solutions to create niche solutions for our clients, which are spread across the four cross-sectoral domains of Green Space/Buildings, Spatial Planning, Climate Change and Spatial Analytics.

Green Urban Development

Design Buildings, as they are designed and used today, contribute to serious environmental problems due to excessive consumption of energy and other natural resources. Green buildings offer tremendous opportunities to save energy, cut greenhouse gas emissions, conserve natural resources, improve air and water quality, and reduce waste. Energy efficient green buildings offer lower operating costs on account of less energy consumption, higher tenant attractiveness and productivity benefits due to healthier working environment.

Our Green Urban Development practice combines our heritage in architecture & design with our planning practice to provide a multi-pronged approach involving the implementation of bioclimatic principles of architecture responsive to the micro-climate, use of material with low embodied energy, reduction of transportation energy and incorporation of efficient structural design.

Spatial Planning

Design Using GIS and Remote Sensing technologies, we work with city and regional governments to develop urban area plans, land use plans and resettlement plans. The planning process is supported by GIS to examine the impact of a number of variables and explore multiple development scenarios.

The use of raster-GIS based cartographic modeling techniques along with decision models helps us develop creative and environmentally sensitive solutions for urban and regional growth. High-resolution satellite imagery, development of base maps, and the integration of field survey data are essential activities delivered as part of our Spatial Planning services.

Climate Change

Design Our GIS specialists work with domain experts to support climate change modeling and response strategies, risk analysis, vulnerability assessments, and support mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Spatial Analytics

Design Today, data is an integral part of decision making for any organization. Though this data speaks through tables and charts, one can’t “see” what the data really implies for the business. This “blind spot” is addressed by adding the Spatial component, which is present in 80%* of transactional data. (*ESRI study)

Thus, by combining spatial and non-spatial data, Spatial Analysis provides you with a holistic overview of your business environment, and lets you “see” the implication of this data on your organization. Our experience in Spatial Data and Business analytics allows us to deliver ‘smarter’, more intuitive solutions to our clients across domains as varied as Governtments/NGOs to the FMCG sector.
